Social Media has grown immensely in the business world over the past 3 years, with a vast amount of companies from various industries are now turning to social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest (and many more) to interact with their customer/fan-base. Using social media, companies can create virtual communities and networks from which they can create, share, engage and exchange information with hundreds of people at the same time.

I have worked in this domain for over 3 years and I came to the realization today that my life would be empty without my Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and the various other active accounts I hold! What did I do before Facebook? How did I stay in contact with my family and friends 9 years ago during my backpacking trip across Australia?

This weekend my internet crashed and I had a whole 24 hours with no online access. I spent 12 of those hours sitting in the corner of my apartment rocking and crying… Wondering if there was any such thing as a “Social Media Helpline” that I could contact for support.

Over 50% of the world’s population are under 30 years old and out of that 50%… 96% of us have joined a social network.  Facebook reached 200 million users in less than a year and if it were a country, it would be the 3Rd Largest country in the world. YouTube is the second largest search engine and 24 out of 25 of the world’s largest newspapers are experiencing record declines in circulation and sales.

We no longer have to search for news, products or reviews… Social Media brings them directly to us.

Facebook, twitter, Pinterest, Amazon, Google

At WowWee we work endlessly to bring you the latest news and information on our products. We try our best to listen to your feedback, answer your questions and engage with your ideas.  Our Facebook and Twitter pages have become forums for customer feedback and we try our best to respond as quickly and efficiently as we can. Unfortunately managing so many channels and trying to keep up to date with the latest trends can be hard work and things may be missed or ‘slip through the net’.

Our social communities are important to us and we would love to hear your thoughts.

Share your feedback with us by posting a comment on our wall, sending us a tweet or sending us photos of you enjoying our products.  Sharing your thoughts, experiences, questions or concerns with us will help us better understand the needs of our customers. It’s you who keeps WowWee in business and although we may not always see eye to eye… You are important to us and we want to thank you for your support.

Use our social media channels to connect with us and if you have not connected with us before, follow the links below to find us.

We can’t wait to hear from you!

I have to admit; I don’t know much about Valentines Day… Apart from the fact that it falls on February 14th and women like me, love to receive flowers and chocolates or if I’m really lucky, a meal and night out on the town.

I decided to conduct some research into this popular holiday and discovered that Valentines Day is named after Saint Valentinus, who according to popular legend; was imprisoned for performing the weddings of soldiers who were forbidden to marry by order of Emperor Claudius II.  The other legend (which I prefer) suggests that an imprisoned Valentinus actually sent the first ‘Valentine’ greeting after he fell in love with a girl while he was in confinement (Apparently the daughter of the prison guard).

Why has no one made this into a movie?

Valentines Day is a ‘top event’ on the retail calendar, with the rise in spending increasing each year. The average US consumer will spend $116.21 on Valentines gifts, meals and entertainment and 32% of consumers plan to do their Valentine’s Day shopping online. Last year, iPhone and iPad accounted for 10.4% of mobile retail traffic, which is a drastic increase on last year.

Why not try something different this Valentine’s Day? For the game loving men and women you want to surprise on the 14th, how about giving them the gift of ‘gaming on the go’ with our range of AppGear products? Or treating the little ones in your life to a brand new ArtSee Studio so they don’t feel left out?

What’s the best Valentine’s gift you have received?

Valentines heart for WowWee Blog Post

I recently took an underwater adventure, where I swam above a coral reef, watched colorful fish swim by and held out my hand to touch the glittering scales, I listened to dolphins communicate with each other and watched as they jumped out of the water and danced on the waves. It was the most magical adventure, and no, I didn’t have to go to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia to experience this … I did it all from the comfort of my desk at work.

I am writing this blog post as a woman who is way older than the desired age for ArtSee Studio™; a woman who spent a sufficient amount of time yesterday completely enthralled with the amazing drawing kit. ArtSee Studio™ is for children aged three plus, but I’m adamant adults will have a blast with it too!

ArtSee Studio™ lets kids be taken on an interactive journey of color, sound and motion. It’s an innovative drawing kit, which can transform simple drawings and paintings on any iPad® into animated games and activities.

Not only does ArtSee Studio™ give you the opportunity to turn a blank canvas into a Van Gogh-style masterpiece, it’s also packed with games and activities, which help enhance your child’s cognitive development.

For more information visit the ArtSee Studio™ website:

After hours, of fun with ArtSee Studio™, I would recommend it to everyone! Take a wild African safari, where you can mingle with the lions and giraffes or build a racetrack and imagine yourself as a Formula One driver… ArtSee Studio™ brings your imagination to life!

As a kid I loved exploring. My friends and I would wander into the woods and fields on the outskirts of the small town where we lived, whether rain or shine, and go on mini adventures to see what treasures we could find.  Our nets would be out as will sifted through the dirt on the river bed, our mini shovels would dig holes under the trees… and we would go home with a small bag full of colored glass and smooth rocks thinking we’d be rich!

What would have happened if we’d found mysterious alien gun parts on our treasure hunt expeditions?

When the going gets tough and aliens invade your hometown, you don’t want to be one of those scared kids who runs and hides behind your mom and dad waiting for the trouble to pass over! You want to be on the front line of the action! Putting together those strange, mysterious gun parts you’ve found to battle those aliens and run them out of town!

You’ve got 9 mysterious raygun parts and more than 20 wacky combinations which you can use.  Maybe you’ll blast goo or lightening…. Or maybe you’ll have to try the various combinations and see what happens!

Have hours of fun over the holiday season battling aliens to save your hometown!

Have you played Mysterious Raygun? If so, go to our Facebook page and share with other Mysterious Raygun fans what your favorite and the most effective gun combination is!

One of my favorite subjects in school was history. I know! You probably think I’m nuts! But learning about where we originated from and ancient cultures has always intrigued me. Painting pictures in my mind of what life was like without the luxuries we’ve come to take for granted in modern times…. Hot water, electricity, the internet… (Imagining life without internet is worse than any horror movie I’ve seen!).

One of the most fascinating ancient civilizations, to me, was the Ancient Egyptians.  Like Ancient Greece, many children died young and those who survived were married by the age of 12.  Although childhood was short lived the Ancient Egyptians enjoyed a variety of leisure activities and games.

A popular game in Ancient Egypt was the board game, Senet, which translated means the ‘Game of Passing’. It is one of the oldest known board games and the rules of the game are still under debate.  Other games and toys included; wooden dolls, proof of this was found in 1887 when British Archeologist Sir Flinders Petrie discovered an Egyptian doll, which dated back to 1800 BC! Egyptians were also well known for mechanical toys, which they made using string and hinges. Does anyone remember toys, which you would pull by a string, and they would move their legs as you tugged the toy behind you? The Egyptians invented the mechanical crocodile with snapping jaws, which is where our modern day toys originated!

Spinning tops and marbles were also common toys. WowWee recently released a new range of toys based on the simple marble but have given it a monstrous twist to make a historic game more fun!

Have you played Monster Marbles and taken a trip back to the past?

In the spring of 2012 (May 19th to be precise) Appgear released their first title, Foam Fighters and since then have released a variety of games aimed to relieve boredom worldwide. The games have ranged from zombies battling human hordes, to aliens who have escaped and are taking over the galaxy… and more recently, Akodomon! Small creatures with big secrets which need YOU, the player, to help them discover the true nature of their powers.

Akodomon takes you on exciting quests where you can discover hidden regions and engage in epic battles to help restore peace to the land of Akodomon. Along your journey you can collect coins to spend in the shop and hunt for special gems, which give you new and special powers.

Each character has their own special skill, which attributes to all aspects of the adventure. Shara’s sword skills and fighting techniques are unmatched, Gongo is quick and nimble with a boomerang, strong willed Tiko has the slingshot, Snubbs uses his super long tongue with dexterity, Zira is amazingly fast and accurate with blow darts and Stig is powerful and fierce with a spear!

The land of Akodomon can’t find peace without your help! Do you think you can take on the challenge of raising and training your Akodomon?

Product Information: You can download Akodomon for free but in order to access the characters’ colossus power and the augmented reality you need to purchase the two-character game pack ( ).

If you are already a fan of Akodomon visit our Facebook page and share with us your favorite Akodomon character!

I’ve been asked a lot recently what it was like to meet UFC fighters and get to know them outside of the Octagon… And let me tell you, fans and non-fans of the UFC… it was an incredible experience!

As a UFC fan you watch these guys inside the cage, using a combination of fighting styles and skills to win the belt and become the best-mixed martial artist in the world. You know that to become a fighter it takes a lot of hard work and dedication and that most fighters train enough hours per week to make it their full time job…  I doubt they get the chance to spend their Friday nights sitting at home watching a movie and eating a full tub of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream… which is something I do on a regular basis!

The first fighter AppGear had the pleasure of meeting was Johny Hendricks… who (as most of you will know if you follow us on Twitter and Facebook) won his fight on Saturday, November 17th  2012 at UFC-154 with the only knockout of the night.

Born and raised in Oklahoma, USA, Hendricks started his wrestling career at Oklahoma State University where he won the 2005 and 2006 NCAA division. Hendricks graduated Oklahoma State in 2007, moved to Las Vegas and signed with Team Takedown where he began his training in Mixed Martial Arts.

On Tuesday November 13th 2012, we had an exclusive interview with Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks where we got to know what was going on beneath the tough fighter exterior. We had the chance to learn about his family, what he thinks of the holidays, his secrets and even his opinion of past UFC fighters like Royce Gracie and Brock Lesnar.

One of my favorite quotes from “Bigg Rigg” during the interview was his opinion on wrestling, which is a huge passion of his “Wrestling prepares you for life better than other sports… other sports give you a team to rely on. I like individual sports because they teach you how to win and how to lose, and everyday business is that right there…”

You know the holiday season is fast approaching when Black Friday is tomorrow!

Black Friday and Cyber Monday? What are they? I hear you say. Well, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are marketing terms used to signify the Friday before Thanksgiving and the Monday after. Both terms were created to help persuade people to shop online. They made their debut into the marketing world in November 2005 and Cyber Monday is now one of the biggest online shopping days of the year!

As soon as Halloween is over, companies start gearing up for the final push leading to the most important online shopping weekend of the year. Preparing promotions, discounts and offers to help draw people in.

WowWee is ahead of the game this year and have decided to give you holiday promotions early! Black Friday and Cyber Monday may be the official holiday discount days, but we are giving you the opportunity to purchase a variety of our products at a discounted price before (and after) the top two shopping days of the year!

We have a little something for everyone the family… Paper Jamz guitars for those who want to grow up to be rock stars or for those adults who are children at heart, the blast from the past Robosapien and Roboraptor for those hardcore WowWee fans, as well as a deal on our two most popular AppGear games; buy Elite CommandAR and get Akodomon FREE!

Check out our store to see what else we have to offer!

AppGear have recently just hit the jackpot for an amazing (and incredibly awesome!) social media campaign by getting the chance to work with UFC fighters taking part in UFC 154 this weekend (Saturday 17th November). To give you all my personal perspective while I write this blog… I want to let you know that I am officially shaking with excitement! I have been a UFC fan for many years and I now actually have the chance to work with some of these amazing athletes/fighters while promoting our incredible augmented reality game; Elite CommandAR.

Here’s a bit of background for all you non-fans… UFC was created in the United States back in 1993 and was originally promoted as a competition to determine the most effective martial arts for unarmed combat situations. It wasn’t long before the fighters realized that in order to compete and be the best, they would need to train in additional disciplines (fighting styles). UFC fighters began to morph themselves into well-rounded, balanced fighters who could fight standing or on the floor. The blend of fighting styles and skills became known as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

If you have never seen a UFC event before you should tune into the fight this weekend to check it out! These guys are incredible! But not only that… a few UFC fighters will be promoting Elite CommandAR during the event and we’ll have a competition running during this time on Twitter and Facebook where 5 lucky winners will get the chance to win autographed pictures as well as their very own Elite CommandAR to enjoy over the holiday season!

Stay tuned for further updates and information, which will be coming your way soon!

I have a confession to make… I own an iPhone and I’m addicted to downloading games! They say the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem… so… there you go, world! I’ve admitted it.

I spend so much of my time commuting to and from work, and visiting family and friends, all using public transit. This means I am often bored and looking for something to entertain me, and downloading games helps immensely.

I also know I am not alone in my mobile gaming addiction… Not least of all because I see fellow commuters stuck to their phones (I swear, I’m not the only one). I looked it up – 80% of all mobile downloads worldwide are games! Guess it explains the Angry Birds craze a few years back…

The mobile industry is now full of app and game designers trying to find a niche in the mobile gaming market. What is the market missing? What can we do that’s different?

To me, the best mobile gaming experience on the market is AppGear. Why? For starters, they’ve taken mobile gaming to a whole new level. They don’t constrain the user to the real world and have taken the concept of gaming one step further by combining physical toys with augmented reality to enhance the users’ gaming experience. I often sit on the bus and see fellow commuters as aliens and shoot at them through my iPhone screen!

What other games on your mobile device allow you to transform into a zombie, fly a plane, capture escaping aliens or fight as an Elite Commander?
