In the spring of 2012 (May 19th to be precise) Appgear released their first title, Foam Fighters and since then have released a variety of games aimed to relieve boredom worldwide. The games have ranged from zombies battling human hordes, to aliens who have escaped and are taking over the galaxy… and more recently, Akodomon! Small creatures with big secrets which need YOU, the player, to help them discover the true nature of their powers.
Akodomon takes you on exciting quests where you can discover hidden regions and engage in epic battles to help restore peace to the land of Akodomon. Along your journey you can collect coins to spend in the shop and hunt for special gems, which give you new and special powers.
Each character has their own special skill, which attributes to all aspects of the adventure. Shara’s sword skills and fighting techniques are unmatched, Gongo is quick and nimble with a boomerang, strong willed Tiko has the slingshot, Snubbs uses his super long tongue with dexterity, Zira is amazingly fast and accurate with blow darts and Stig is powerful and fierce with a spear!
The land of Akodomon can’t find peace without your help! Do you think you can take on the challenge of raising and training your Akodomon?
Product Information: You can download Akodomon for free but in order to access the characters’ colossus power and the augmented reality you need to purchase the two-character game pack (http://store.wowwee.com/appgear/appgear-akodomon.html ).
I’ve been asked a lot recently what it was like to meet UFC fighters and get to know them outside of the Octagon… And let me tell you, fans and non-fans of the UFC… it was an incredible experience!
As a UFC fan you watch these guys inside the cage, using a combination of fighting styles and skills to win the belt and become the best-mixed martial artist in the world. You know that to become a fighter it takes a lot of hard work and dedication and that most fighters train enough hours per week to make it their full time job… I doubt they get the chance to spend their Friday nights sitting at home watching a movie and eating a full tub of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream… which is something I do on a regular basis!
The first fighter AppGear had the pleasure of meeting was Johny Hendricks… who (as most of you will know if you follow us on Twitter and Facebook) won his fight on Saturday, November 17th 2012 at UFC-154 with the only knockout of the night.
Born and raised in Oklahoma, USA, Hendricks started his wrestling career at Oklahoma State University where he won the 2005 and 2006 NCAA division. Hendricks graduated Oklahoma State in 2007, moved to Las Vegas and signed with Team Takedown where he began his training in Mixed Martial Arts.
On Tuesday November 13th 2012, we had an exclusive interview with Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks where we got to know what was going on beneath the tough fighter exterior. We had the chance to learn about his family, what he thinks of the holidays, his secrets and even his opinion of past UFC fighters like Royce Gracie and Brock Lesnar.
One of my favorite quotes from “Bigg Rigg” during the interview was his opinion on wrestling, which is a huge passion of his “Wrestling prepares you for life better than other sports… other sports give you a team to rely on. I like individual sports because they teach you how to win and how to lose, and everyday business is that right there…”
AppGear have recently just hit the jackpot for an amazing (and incredibly awesome!) social media campaign by getting the chance to work with UFC fighters taking part in UFC 154 this weekend (Saturday 17th November). To give you all my personal perspective while I write this blog… I want to let you know that I am officially shaking with excitement! I have been a UFC fan for many years and I now actually have the chance to work with some of these amazing athletes/fighters while promoting our incredible augmented reality game; Elite CommandAR.
Here’s a bit of background for all you non-fans… UFC was created in the United States back in 1993 and was originally promoted as a competition to determine the most effective martial arts for unarmed combat situations. It wasn’t long before the fighters realized that in order to compete and be the best, they would need to train in additional disciplines (fighting styles). UFC fighters began to morph themselves into well-rounded, balanced fighters who could fight standing or on the floor. The blend of fighting styles and skills became known as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
If you have never seen a UFC event before you should tune into the fight this weekend to check it out! These guys are incredible! But not only that… a few UFC fighters will be promoting Elite CommandAR during the event and we’ll have a competition running during this time on Twitter and Facebook where 5 lucky winners will get the chance to win autographed pictures as well as their very own Elite CommandAR to enjoy over the holiday season!
Stay tuned for further updates and information, which will be coming your way soon!
“In the movies they were taught the good guys always win….”
On Thursday 19th July 2012 AppGear released the long awaited augmented reality game; Elite CommandAR.
What is augmented reality? I hear some of you say…. Augmented reality aims to duplicate the environment around you in a computer (or in our case an iPhone, iPad, iTouch, or Android Device). It combines the real scene (as viewed by the user) and a virtual scene generated by a computer.
“Those who survived crawled out of the rubble that was once a house, a city, a country… “
Elite CommandAR turns your world into a digital battlefield.
Playing Elite CommandAR will immerse your physical self into a virtual mission. You will be using the AR markers included with the game to take out and defeat the alien invaders who are sneaking through the portal from their world into yours. You will need to use your intelligence, wit and cunning to fight for the survival of the planet…. Your family, your friends, everyone you know…
“Using scavenged alien technology, we built a cybernetically enhanced suit to put one fighter on equal footing with the Vorosins.
And that marine is…you”.
Do you think you can complete the mission? Save the planet?
Comic-Con is a huge event and takes place every year in San Diego. It’s a comic and arts convention, which features comic books (obviously… hence the title of the event!), games, art, movies and special guests. It’s a chance for fans from across the world to congregate under one roof, dress as their favorite comic/movie characters and participate in some celebrity sight seeing for days on end…. And this year AppGear had the chance to participate as a special guest!
Thousands of people flooded through the AppGear games truck, which was parked in Petco Park Parking Lot outside the Comic-Con main entrance.
Dedicated pilots fighting in historic battles, hungry and tired zombies fighting off hordes of angry humans, elite commanders saving the earth from a fierce race of bloodthirsty aliens and everyone trying to stop those pesky little green aliens from escaping! The AppGear team and fans gathered together in extraordinary fashion for an event to remember.
AppGear fans had the chance to try our latest augmented reality app toys as well as have sneak peeks into future releases. Cash prizes were given and battles were won!
It was 4 days of fun-tastic mayhem and the AppGear team loved every minute of it!
Did you see us at Comic-Con? If so, post your stories on our Facebook page and let us know all about your AppGear experiences.
A few WowWee employees were lucky enough to be on the set of LMFAO’s “Sorry for Party Rocking” video earlier this month. Why were they there? Because Foam Fighters, one of the titles in our new AppGear line of app toys, had a small role in the intro. It was a crazy scene, but we managed to snap some photos and take some video of our own during the LMFAO crew’s downtime.
It’s not every day you get to see talk-show host Kelly Ripa dive-bomb her audience with a fighter plane, but Foam Fighters has that effect on people. The Foam Fighters segment starts about 4 minutes into the clip.
Here’s what they’re saying about our new product line that merges collectible toys and app games:
“WowWee’s AppGear is looking to make a name for itself in the appcessory games category, and it certainly looks like the company is off to a good start. AppGear took home Toy Fair 2012′s Best New App Toy award, and its various games use augmented reality and physical toys to create a unique gameplay experience.”
Check out their video of Foam Fighters to see how you can take to the skies with WWII fighter planes for immersive aerial combat.
